Sections are supplied to GB/T 706, which fixes the dimensions of the hot rolled channel range. Minimum yield strength as specified: Q235B 235 MPa and S235JR 235 MPa for thickness up to 16 mm, SS400 245 MPa.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between hot rolled channel and a cold formed C section?

Hot rolled channel is produced to GB/T 706 with the section dimensions fixed by the standard and a heavier web; cold formed C sections are roll-formed from sheet, with a thinner and more uniform wall and usually less weight for the same depth. Send the drawing and we will confirm which one it shows.

How is a channel size written?

A designation such as 100x48x5.3 gives the web height, the flange width and the web thickness in millimetres. The flange thickness is fixed by the section table in GB/T 706.

Can channel steel be galvanized?

Hot-dip galvanizing of sections is coordinated where a supplier or finisher can provide it; otherwise the material is supplied mill finish. State the surface and coating requirement on the enquiry and we will confirm what can be met.

What lengths can you supply?

6 m and 12 m are the standard lengths. Fixed-length cutting is coordinated where the supplier can provide it.

What is the minimum order quantity?

For many products the practical minimum is around one container (about 20-25 tons). Mixed containers and smaller trial quantities can be reviewed – tell us the requirement and we will confirm it against the mill or available stock.
